Today brings the final debate on amendments to the bill enabling Theresa May to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, launching Britain’s two-year talks on leaving the European Union. Europhile MPs have won a small concession: Parliament will have a “meaningful” vote on the final deal—though if MPs reject it, Britain will leave anyway, the government says. Today’s focus will be securing the rights of the roughly 3m EU nationals living in Britain (hungry for negotiating chips, the prime minister has refused to guarantee these). On this, too, rebel MPs are expected to be disappointed. Things should move smoothly for Mrs May, who reportedly wants to hit the button on March 9th, but not for Labour. A revolt is brewing at Jeremy Corbyn’s evident reluctance to cause the government trouble on Brexit. It looks increasingly doubtful that his leadership will survive longer than Britain’s
